Certain individuals and groups seem intent on pushing the boundaries of acceptable discourse to dangerous extremes. This growing trend could have catastrophic consequences for the United States. The potential for civil unrest and even civil war is no longer a far-fetched scenario but a looming threat fueled by reckless rhetoric and stuff like assassination attempts.
One alarming example comes from actress Lea DeLaria, known for her role in "Orange Is the New Black." DeLaria recently posted a message on social media calling for President Biden to assassinate former President Trump, likening him to Hitler and suggesting we are living in a time akin to 1940. Her post stated, "Trump is Hitler, and this is 1940. Take him the fuck out."
Such incendiary language does nothing but pour gasoline on an already roaring fire of political polarization. By invoking violent imagery and historical parallels, DeLaria's statement not only crosses the line of acceptable political discourse but also potentially incites violence. The consequences of such statements can be dire, as they contribute to a climate where extreme actions are increasingly seen as justified. In this scenario the attempted killing of the head of the opposite political party.
While free speech is a fundamental right, it is crucial to remember that with this freedom comes responsibility. Public figures have a platform and influence that can sway public opinion and behavior. Calls for violence, especially in such a polarized environment, can have real-world consequences, potentially leading to acts of violence and further division.
In a more grassroots version, Colin Brewer, a healthcare worker in Florida, posted a threatening message after being reported to the FBI for a previous post calling the attempt on Trump's life a “practice shot” was deemed a "threat." Brewer's response was to promise public retaliation by releasing personal information about the individual who reported him, escalating the situation and fostering a climate of fear and retribution.
Brewer's post read: "Someone reported one of my posts as a 'threat' to the FBI who showed up on my doorstep tonight to make sure I'm 'not a credible threat.' I'm sorry you feel so threatened by my opinion that you had to stoop so low. Just know, I know who you are and I will publicly release all personal information of you in the coming days. How's that for a threat?"
These incidents are not isolated. They are part of a broader pattern of escalating rhetoric and actions by the left that threaten to push the country towards a breaking point. As political tensions rise, the likelihood of violent confrontations increases. Make no mistake, the assassination of a political figure in our current climate will lead to civil unrest, trigger a financial collapse, foreign divestment, and cascading breakdown of the social order.
We must denounce calls for violence and work towards bridging the divides that threaten to tear our society apart so the well armed, well trained and disciplined other side is gonna need a lot of mops.
Stay informed, stay engaged, and most importantly, stay peaceful…”mostly”
